Gonzalez, Pizza Rockets Shut Out Weebs, 5-0
Thursday, July 23rd , 2076
Danny Gonzalez of the Aberdeen Pizza Rockets was on top of his game.
The 36-year-old tantalized the Kyoto Weebs with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 5-0.
"He had the changeup working," Kyoto manager said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Aberdeen hurler had 4 strikeouts, gave up no walks and surrendered 4 hits in his complete-game effort.
Gonzalez told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
For the season, Gonzalez has a record of 5 wins and 2 losses in 9 appearances. He has an ERA of 4.42 and has fanned 39 batters in 59 innings.
