Spiders Win at New York, 3-2
|
In a tight contest between the Brooklyn Spiders and the New York Fancy Rats, Adam Schlenker was the determining factor. The Brooklyn right-hander sparkled in his team's 3-2 win. Schlenker yielded 1 run over 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. His record improves to 7-3. James Wasnick earned the save for Brooklyn, his 4th.
Corey Harrison, who led the EL in slugging percentage with .615 in 2001, had a direct impact on the outcome. Harrison contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the third inning to put Brooklyn up, 3-1.
Schlenker called the win "a lesson in teamwork."
The Spiders, at 44-25, sit in first place in the Eastern League Atlantic Division.
