Providence Pins 5-1 Loss on Asheville
The Providence Reds got a strong performance from pitcher Ben Pearce, who stymied the visiting Asheville Tourists en route to a win, 5-1, in Game 2 of the League Championship. The Tourists could never get a bead on the left-handed Pearce, who threw 5.0 innings of shutout ball. The Reds now hold a 2-0 in the best-of-7 series.

Carlos Pérez dealt the Tourists a blow in the bottom of the fourth. Batting with a runner on 1st and Providence leading 1-0, Pérez hit a 2-1 curveball for a run-scoring double.

"I was just trying to execute one pitch at a time," said Pearce.

Game 3 is scheduled for Tuesday at Azalea Park in Asheville.
