New York Bats Go Silent in 2-0 Loss
|
Azalea Park was the site of a true pitchers' duel.
The Asheville Tourists downed the New York Gothams, 2-0, at Azalea Park. Stellar pitching by Seth Persons had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who is tied for 10th in the EL with a 6.9 K/9 rate, handcuffed his opponent all game. Picking up the save was Nick Osteen. He's now 3 for 6 in save chances.
Eddie Mendietta, who finished 4th in the EL in OPS with .948 in 2090, chipped in a solo home run for Asheville in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the center fielder had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 1 run batted in.
Mendietta said the team appreciates the support from the fans. "I'm glad we could reward them with a good win," he said after the game.
Asheville raised its record to 41-37 with the win.
