Phoenix and Guelph duked it out and the Unforgiven came out victorious.
The Guelph Royals were defeated, 3-2, by the Phoenix Unforgiven at Royal City Stadium, even though Bill Armijo pitched well for Guelph. Artie Ortega, 4-3, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2.2 innings.
Bill Metts came through with a big-time hit for Phoenix. The right fielder smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to give his team the lead, 3-2. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Phoenix manager Tim Hageman.
Phoenix, at 89-69, is 2½ games up in the Western League Battisti Division.
