Alfonso Rodriguez, who led the EL in ERA with 2.78 last year, never let the Blue Jays get in a groove. The left-hander used his bread and butter, his changeup, to pitch the River Bandits to a win, 6-1. The winner was Rodriguez. He threw 5.1 innings of 3-hit ball. The loser was Marco Helguera. The triumph puts Pittsburgh at 81-68 for the season.

Pittsburgh used a clutch at-bat from Miguel Raya to capture the win. The center fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the River Bandits ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.

Pittsburgh manager Cary Rosen called it "a darn good win."
