River Bandits Win at Tri-City, 7-5
|
The Pittsburgh River Bandits beat the Tri-City ValleyCats, 7-5. Pittsburgh pitcher and Clarksburg, West Virginia, native Juan Mendez led the way. Mendez, now 13-6, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 0, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. The win gives Pittsburgh a season record of 80-66.
Pittsburgh took a 7-2 lead on Domenico Barattin's 21st home run of the season. The 3-run home run, which Barattin hit in the top of the seventh, left Tri-City pitcher Adam Westfall visibly frustrated.
"I'm happy we won," said Mendez. "That's first and foremost. My goal is for the team to win the day I pitch, however it's done."
