Both offenses were relatively subdued at The Big Sombrero. Fortunately for the Mexican Hat Wild Burros, though, Pepe Marino was able to deliver in the clutch. He was 2-4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once, to lead his team past the Bryan Bombers, 3-1. The winner in relief was Pat Young. He is now 9-13. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 3 innings. Wayne Stockley got the save, his 28th in 32 chances.

There was more than one reason the Wild Burros beat the Bombers, but Marino's big at-bat in the bottom of the first was an important factor. He staked his team to a 1-0 lead when he hit a run-scoring single.

Marino attributed the win to his team's "grittiness."
