Schenectady Gets Riveting Walk-Off Win
Starting pitcher Don McIntyre gave the Schenectady Blue Jays a rock-solid effort. The Modesto, California native helped his team defeat the Portland Beavers, 3-2, at McNearney Stadium. Robby Hernández, who finished 2nd in the EL in saves with 30 last year, was the winner in relief. His record is now 6-5. The losing pitcher was Armando Matta. The Beavers, now 57-59, have lost 5 straight.

Bill Hayes was the walk-off hero for Schenectady. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Blue Jays pinch hitter hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

"We had the right guys up at the right times," said Portland manager Jeff Pascarella. "We just didn't cash in."
