Birmingham Takes Round 1 in Deciding Game
Thursday, September 9th, 1971
The Birmingham A's are off to the Round 2 after an exciting Round 1 triumph.

Birmingham downed the Albuquerque Dodgers, but needed the entire series to do so, with a 12-3 win tonight at Rickwood Field wrapping up the series 4-3.

"It's every guy in this room that made this happen. Without us all pulling in the same direction, we don't win this series," said Dane Iorg, who earned MVP honors for a standout offensive series.

Iorg put up a .545 with a .667 on-base percentage in the series. He also had 2 home runs, drove in 7 runs and scored 4 runs himself.

The Birmingham A's will play against the Asheville Tourists in the next round. Asheville won their series against the Montgomery Rebels 4 games to 1. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
