World Baseball Championship U18 Top Player Is Salgado

At the age of 17, Juan Salgado of the Mexico could very well have his best years ahead of him.
It's a startling thought when you consider the year he had in 2023 was good enough to win the catcher the World Baseball Championship U18 Most Valuable Player Award.
"See the ball, hit the ball," he said. "That's my basic approach."
The top hitter put up a .420 batting average this year, as well as a .500 on-base percentage. He played 14 games and racked up 21 hits, 2 doubles, no triples, 3 home runs, 15 RBIs and 15 runs scored.
He received 5 first place votes out of a possible 16. Jarold Montealto of the Nicaragua finished second in voting with 5 first place votes, while Luis Robledo of the Mexico finished third with 6 first place votes.
