Aherns Gets #400
Monday, July 25th , 2039
St. Louis defeated San Diego today 6-5 and took some of the joy out of Ethan Aherns's 400th career home run.
"I just wanted to get a good swing on the ball all day," Aherns said. "And I did."
Despite the loss, it was a good game for the 36-year-old Padres third baseman. He had 2 hits, scored 1 run and had 3 runs batted in.
The Cardinals manager said, "You could see he was aggressive up there. The worst thing we did was throw him a strike. It probably would have been better if we threw the ball outside of the strike zone every time he came to the plate because he seemed like he was in a hurry to get it over with."
Looking at his career numbers, Aherns has played in 1787 games with a .254 batting average. Among his 1735 hits are 370 doubles, 13 triples and 400 home runs. He has also scored 965 runs and driven in 1080 runs.
