Pittsburgh Bats Go Silent in 2-0 Loss
|
New York got a strong outing from Mario Espinoza as the Mets defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates, 2-0, at Citi Field. Espinoza went 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 6. His record improves to 2-3. New York is off to a sluggish start, getting just their 9th win in 25 games.
New York first baseman Marco Quintana contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With two down, he hit a fastball into center field for a 2-run single. It was his 8th hit of the season and put the Mets ahead, 2-0.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" New York manager Matt Young said.
