Extra-Inning Win by Cubs Over Cardinals
|
The St. Louis Cardinals got a superb performance from pitcher Brad Quintero. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Chicago. The Cubs won the game, 2-1. Quintero threw 5.1 innings of 3-hit ball. Josh Alicea, now 1-0, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on 2 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 0. St. Louis falls to 10-6.
Chicago used the timely hitting of Jonathan Reese to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Cubs on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Reese.
