Cardinals Drop Mets, 5-3
|
Starting pitcher Tomás Givotovsky pitched well enough to help the St. Louis Cardinals beat the New York Mets, 5-3. The winning pitcher was Givotovsky, now 2-0. He tossed 8 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 5. Josh Bowers collected save number 6.
St. Louis used the timely hitting of Tommy Buck to capture the win. The designated hitter socked a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Cardinals ahead, 5-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Givotovsky told the St. Louis Gazette.
Early on, the Cardinals, at 10-3, have played an impressive brand of baseball.
