Victory Over Rockies Takes Cleveland to 8-4
|
Despite a great performance by Colorado center fielder Steve Richardson, the Cleveland Spiders defeated the Rockies by the score of 5-3 at Progressive Field. Richardson belted 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Cleveland reliever Geoff Cushner picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Butch Tolle took the loss. Keith Tate recorded the save for Cleveland, his 3rd of the season.
Jose Murillo swatted a 3-run home run for Cleveland in the bottom of the third. The first baseman went 2 for 3 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 1 run and batted in 3.
Murillo told a Cleveland Chronicle reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
The win brings the Spiders to 8-4, a promising start as the team looks to return to the playoffs.
