Down to Defeat Goes Washington, 3-2
|
Despite the rain, the fans at Comerica Park enjoyed a good ballgame.
The Washington Nationals could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Jose Bueno into a win. Instead, the Detroit Tigers prevailed, 3-2. Bueno threw 5.1 innings of 3-hit ball. The winner was Detroit reliever Josh Frazier, now 1-1. The loser was Jose Bueno.
The Tigers got a big hit from right fielder Ivan Covarrubias. Facing Washington pitcher Jose Bueno in the bottom of the fifth, Covarrubias pounded a run-scoring double to left. His 3rd double of the season put the Tigers ahead, 3-0.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Detroit manager Mac Lardner said.
The Tigers raised their record to 8-4.
