Cubs Lose By a Run at Atlanta, 6-5
|
Atlanta second baseman Gastone Re helped his team beat the Chicago Cubs, 6-5. Re, who finished 2nd in the NL in slugging percentage with .614 in 2037, went 1 for 3 for the Braves. The winning pitcher was Mike Carlson. His record is now 1-0. The right-hander went 5.1 innings, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits for the Braves. Atlanta, now 6-2, is playing great baseball to start the year.
The Braves got a big at-bat from right fielder Ronald Acuna Jr.. For the game, Acuna Jr. was 1-3 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 3rd home run of the season gave Atlanta a 5-4 lead.
"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Atlanta manager Burke Badenhop.
