Giants Beat Twins, 6-2
|
The San Francisco Giants called upon starter Todd Clarke, and he delivered, leading his team to victory over the Minnesota Twins, 6-2. The winning pitcher was Clarke, now 8-9. He tossed 5 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 5. San Francisco goes to 90-60. The win puts them 3½ games up in their division.
The Giants got an important contribution from first baseman Ricky Ortiz, who in the bottom of the fourth punched a 1-0 cutter into left-center for a 2-run home run. It was his 22nd home run of the season and put the Giants ahead, 4-0.
Ortiz called the win "a lesson in teamwork."
