Close Win Moves Cubs to 73-57
|
Both teams had their chances, but the Chicago Cubs eventually prevailed.
Starting pitcher Edgar Jimenez pitched well enough to help the Chicago Cubs beat the Seattle Mariners, 4-3. Jimenez, now 14-11, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 8, walking 0, and allowing 3 runs.
Chicago right fielder VĂtor Mosca landed a blow when he socked a 2-run home run in the bottom of the fifth. It was his 20th home run of the season. With it, the Cubs took a 4-1 lead.
Jimenez called winning a team effort. "It's not the same guy every time," he said. "It's the sum of the parts."
