Cardinals Defeat Mets, 2-1
|
The St. Louis Cardinals got a stellar performance from pitcher Josh Lindenthal, who handcuffed the New York offense en route to a win, 2-1, at Busch Stadium. Lindenthal, the winner, moves to 11-7. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 8 and giving up 2 walks. Earning his 32nd save of the year was Josh Bowers.
Jim Lagasse was a prime contributor to the St. Louis win. He went 2 for 4 with 2 singles. In the bottom of the second with two out, the 27-year old second baseman hit a run-scoring single. It made the score 2-0, in favor of the Cardinals.
"We didn't string enough hits together to win the game," said tight-lipped New York manager Matt Young. "Obviously."
The victory gives St. Louis a record of 71-54.
