The Cincinnati Reds have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading Houston Astros, winning 9-3 at Great American Ball Park today. Reds third baseman Jerry Alvarado went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. The win cuts the deficit facing the Reds to 2-1 in the best-of-7 League Championship Series.

With one out in the top of the seventh, Drew Romo had a chance to do some damage. Houston was trailing 6-0, but had the bases loaded. Romo came to the plate against Jose Pena, and grounded out, driving in 1 run. But it was not enough to complete a Houston comeback.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
