Yankees Win League Championship Series
|
New York left fielder Jonathan Battee couldn't hide his reaction when asked about being named MVP of the League Championship Series.
"It's a nice honor," he said, failing to suppress a wide smile. The trophy was presented to Battee moments after his club eliminated the Montreal Expos to advance to the World Series.
New York won the final game by a score of 5-4 at Yankee Stadium and took the series 4-2.
"We won the series and that's the main thing," Battee said. "They were a tough team and we didn't want to take anything for granted."
For the series, Battee hit .458 with a .519 on-base percentage. He had 3 home runs, drove in 3 RBI and scored 10 runs.
"He was tough to stop and that's a big reason they're there and we're here," said a dejected Montreal manager Mark Kotsay.
The New York Yankees don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Cincinnati Reds - Houston Astros series. Houston leads the series 3 games to 2. The World Series is scheduled to begin on October 29th , 2038.
