The home squad pulled out a thrilling walk-off win.

The New York Yankees defeated the Montreal Expos, 3-2, in American League action at Yankee Stadium. New York pitcher Danny Valdez had a standout performance. New York reliever Curt Short picked up the win, raising his record to 2-0. Chris Morrisette was tagged with the loss.

New York won the game in the bottom of the tenth inning. With one out and Chris Morrisette on the mound for Montreal, center fielder Rob Gilson hit a dramatic solo home run, bringing Yankees fans to their feet.

"Our team showed some gumption," said Valdez. "I like it."

With the win, the Yankees hiked their record to 71-47.
