3-2 Triumph Takes Washington to 74-42
|
In a close game at Nationals Park, the Washington Nationals edged the Boston Red Sox, 3-2. Washington second baseman Irving Cranshaw stood apart with his performance. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times. Danny Navarrete got the win, improving to 6-5. He pitched 5.1 innings, giving up 5 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 2. The second-place Nationals now have a win-loss record of 74-42.
With Washington leading 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Cranshaw hit a solo home run off Boston hurler Manny Ochoa. It was the 7th home run of the season for Cranshaw and put his team ahead, 3-1.
"We were in it," said Boston manager Josh Conway. "We just didn't score enough runs."
