Chihuahuas Prevail, as Round 1 Goes to the Wire
|
The El Paso Chihuahuas are heading to the Round 2, having narrowly defeated the Reno Aces.
El Paso edged Reno in the series 3-2, with a win at Southwest University park in the clinching game by a 9-7 margin.
Gabriel Arias turned in a strong offensive performance for the Chihuahuas and got series MVP for his efforts.
"I'll never turn down another trophy for my mantle, another accomplishment to remember once my career is over," he said. "What I would really remember, though, is a Round 2 win."
It remains to be seen how the playoffs will conclude, but if Arias continues to swing a hot bat, his team will no doubt have a chance.
For the series, he hit .263 with a .364 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, 3 RBI and scored 3 runs.
The El Paso Chihuahuas don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Round Rock Express - Memphis Redbirds series. That series is tied at 2 games apiece. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.\n
