Cardinals Fell Yankees, 9-3
|
A 3-RBI performance from center fielder Mike Murphy, who finished 3rd in the NL in OPS with .978 in 2037, led the St. Louis Cardinals to a win over the New York Yankees, 9-3. St. Louis reliever Jose Baca picked up the win, while Cesar Soto took the loss for New York. St. Louis has now won 3 in a row.
The Cardinals got an important contribution from third baseman Ed Howard, who in the bottom of the second hit a 0-2 fastball into right-center for a 2-run double. It was his 12th double of the season and put the Cardinals ahead, 2-0.
"We're one win closer to our goal," Howard said in postgame remarks.
