Mets Deal Rangers 6-4 Defeat
|
Texas right fielder Gordie Lutz had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Lutz was 2 for 4 with a home run, a triple, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2, even as New York beat the Rangers, 6-4. New York starter Robby Huffman was credited with the win after throwing 97 pitches over 5.1 innings. His record now stands at 8-4. Jorge Lopez earned the save, his 10th, for the Mets.
New York used the timely hitting of Bobby Vargas to capture the win. The first baseman socked a grand slam home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Mets ahead, 6-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Vargas told the New York Herald.
New York is now 48-61. Texas is 45-65.
