Late Rally by Yankees Locks Up 4-2 Win
|
The New York Yankees stymied the San Francisco Giants, 4-2, at Yankee Stadium. Ramon Bejarano had a good day at the plate. He was 2-2 with a double and 2 walks for New York. Edgar Leal, now 4-1, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. The Yankees saw their win-loss record go to 68-42. At the same time, the Giants fell to 65-46.
Jim Sutton hit a run-scoring triple off Jonathan Ornelas in the bottom of the eighth, which put the Yankees in front, 3-2. Sutton had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 4.
San Francisco manager Mike Matheny said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
