River Cats Take Title
|
A celebratory mood filled the air as the Sacramento River Cats closed out the season with a 2-1 victory over the Round Rock Express at Sutter Health Park to capture the Round 2, 3-2.
Giving the Express credit for a hard-fought series, River Cats players said they believed throughout the postseason that their "destiny" was to be crowned Pacific Coast League champions.
"We felt like this was our year all season long," said third baseman AJ Vukovich, who was named series MVP. "It was our destiny to win it and we did."
It was the 1st in franchise history. During the Pacific Conference North Division regular season Sacramento put up a 85-55 record and finished first.
"They're the champions and they deserve it," said a dejected Round Rock manager Byung-kyu Lee. "We played good ball, they just played better than us."
