Red Sox Beat Cardinals, 6-3
|
A 4-RBI performance from Pat Carlson, who finished 5th in the AL in home runs with 38 in 2035, helped the Boston Red Sox beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 6-3. Manny Ochoa, the winning pitcher, improved to 5-7. He pitched 5.2 innings, giving up 5 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 6 and walking 4. Bobby Bonetti converted his 33rd save in 34 tries.
The Cardinals had been locked in a 3-3 tie with the Red Sox going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the four-time All-Star Adael Amador came to the plate. Amador hit a run-scoring double on a 1-1 fastball from St. Louis hurler Alex Fierro. It was Amador's 13th double of the year.
In postgame comments to the Boston News, Carlson said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
The Red Sox own a robust 70-36 mark.
