Giants Hang 2-1 Loss on Rays
|
Tyler Gough never let the Rays get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his cutter, to pitch the Giants to a win, 2-1. Josh Romero got the save, his 24th in 27 chances. San Francisco goes to 60-35. The win puts them 3 games up in their division.
The Rays had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Giants going into the bottom of the third inning. That changed quickly when the 25-year old right fielder Dan Befort came to the plate. Befort hit a 2-run home run on a 3-1 fastball from Tampa Bay hurler Bob Ingram. It was Befort's 4th home run of the year.
"Tough loss," said Tampa Bay manager Tony Mansolino. "But we'll learn from it."
