Pirates Get Past Cincinnati for 6-5 Win
|
With left fielder Sean Gugliuzza leading the charge, the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Cincinnati Reds, 6-5, at Great American Ball Park. Gugliuzza, who finished 5th in the NL in triples with 7 last year, was 3-5 with a home run and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Pittsburgh reliever Willie Borrero picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Abraham Uresti was saddled with the loss. Nate Rowe recorded the save. In save chances, he's now 21 for 23.
Gugliuzza had a game-changing double in the top of the ninth. On a 1-1 fastball from Abraham Uresti, he banged a run-scoring double to left-center, giving the Pirates a 6-5 lead. It was the 14th double of the year for Gugliuzza.
"In baseball, you have your ups and downs," said Cincinnati manager Daniel Butler. "You just try to stay level-headed the whole time."
Pittsburgh is now 44-50, Cincinnati 50-44.
