Cardinals Lose By a Run at Chicago, 7-6
|
St. Louis left fielder Tommy Buck had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Buck went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice, even as Chicago beat the Cardinals, 7-6. Chicago reliever Josh Alicea got the win, raising his record to 6-1. Josh Colicci was tagged with the loss. Picking up the save was Bobby Morgan, his 21st.
Had Juan Sierra not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Sierra hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 7-6, in favor of the Cubs.
"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Sierra.
With the win, Chicago pushed its record to 53-37.
