Chicago Spoils Terrific Game by Capelli
|
Dionisio Capelli did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Chicago Cubs from losing, 5-4, to the St. Louis Cardinals at Wrigley Field. Capelli belted 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. The winner in relief was Jonathan Knudsen. He is now 2-4. The left-hander allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 2 innings. Josh Bowers was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 23 of 27 save opportunities.
The result might have been different for St. Louis, had it not been for Mike Murphy, the two-time Most Valuable Player Award winner . Murphy stroked a run-scoring walk in the top of the ninth inning to put St. Louis up, 5-4. For the game, he had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Murphy, "one at-bat at a time."
St. Louis raised its record to 47-42 with the win.
