New York Bats Go Silent in 2-0 Loss
|
A good performance from first baseman Chris Akers helped the Chicago Cubs defeat the New York Mets, 2-0. Akers went 3-4 with 2 home runs for the Cubs. Mike McNerney notched the win in relief. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. His record now sits at 5-1. This win makes it 7 in a row for Chicago.
Chicago took a 2-0 lead on Akers's 36th home run of the season. The solo home run, which he hit off Mario Espinoza in the bottom of the sixth, propelled Chicago to the win.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Chicago skipper Kai Correa. "I can't complain."
