Giants Win Nail-Biter
|
The San Francisco Giants turned back the Cincinnati Reds, 9-8, at Great American Ball Park. Eric Joy, in particular, had a fine performance. He was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. San Francisco reliever Josh Romero was credited with the win, to go to 3-2. Abraham Uresti took the loss for Cincinnati. Jonathan Ornelas earned the save for San Francisco, his 7th of the year.
San Francisco needed the clutch hitting of Josh Pearce to notch the win. The center fielder hammered a solo home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Giants on top, 9-8. For the game, Pearce had 1 home run and 2 singles in 6 at-bats.
"Enjoyed this one," Pearce told the San Francisco Today. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
San Francisco leads the National League West Division by 3½ games.
