Nationals Take Down Royals, 3-2
|
Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the Washington Nationals got the win.
The Washington Nationals picked up a win at Nationals Park, knocking off the Kansas City Royals, 3-2. On the mound for Washington was right-hander Jaylin Morris, who played a pivotal role in the win. Danny Alvarez earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. His record is now 5-3.
Had Brad Williams not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Williams hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Nationals.
"For the most part, I stayed out of the middle of the plate," Morris said.
The win boosted Washington to 53-31.
