Pirates Rally For 6-1 Win
|
Riding the 2-hit performance of the 24-year old third baseman Luis Rivera, the Pittsburgh Pirates stopped the San Francisco Giants, 6-1. Edgar Barcelo, now 2-2, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 1 and walking 2. Nate Rowe was credited with the save for Pittsburgh, his 18th of the season.
Rivera had a game-changing home run in the top of the eighth. On a 1-0 fastball from Jonathan Ornelas, he banged a grand slam home run to left-center, giving the Pirates a 5-1 lead. It was the 11th home run of the year for Rivera.
"I just tried to make good contact," said Rivera.
The Pirates go to 37-47, putting them 5th in the National League East Division.
