Cubs Snatch Late Win
|
In a low-scoring game between the Chicago Cubs and the Seattle Mariners, pitcher Steve Paradis was masterful on the mound. The Chicago right-hander spearheaded his team's 3-1 win. Chicago reliever Alex Riesgo picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Michael Gaston shouldered the loss. With the victory, the Cubs upped their record to 44-35.
Chicago used a clutch hit from Chris Akers to get the win. The second baseman drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Cubs ahead, 3-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a doozy.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Cubs manager Kai Correa, "I like our chances."
