Red Sox Need Extra Frames to Get Past Mets
|
Boston rode a fine outing from starter Plinio Israel to victory over the New York Mets at Citi Field. The final score was 2-0. The Red Sox have an impressive 52-20 record.
Though he did not get the decision, Israel did all he could to keep his team close, twirling a shutout through 8.1 innings, until Boston eventually rallied past the Mets.
During his postgame press conference, Red Sox manager Josh Conway told reporters that he expected a tight game from the get-go. "This had the potential to go down to the wire, and it certainly didn't disappoint," he said, later quipping, "it might've been a little less nerve-racking if I had been watching the game from my couch!"
