Esparza Brilliant as Braves Top Cardinals, 2-0
|
Fans were not deterred by the threat of rain. They came to see their hometown Atlanta Braves take on the St. Louis Cardinals.
In a well-pitched game between the Atlanta Braves and the St. Louis Cardinals, pitcher Bruce Esparza was superb. The Atlanta right-hander helped his team win, 2-0. Atlanta is now 35-23, St. Louis 30-27.
Esparza was in the zone all game. He frustrated St. Louis hitters while giving the Braves 7 innings of quality work. Esparza threw 102 pitches, allowing 1 hit and getting 5 punchouts.
"The key at this level is throwing strike one," said Esparza. "Successful pitchers do it."
