Mariners Lose Late, 3-0
|
The Tampa Bay Rays got a magnificent effort from pitcher Josh O'Donnell, who kept Seattle hitters in check en route to a 3-0 Rays win at T-Mobile Park. The winner in relief was Ed Burns. He is now 3-3. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. At 21-33, the Rays claim last place in the National League East Division.
Tampa Bay used the timely hitting of Wander Franco to capture the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Rays on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but he made it count.
Afterward, Rays manager Tony Mansolino was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
