Reds Nip Cardinals, 4-3
|
Tommy Buck had a good game, but he could not keep the St. Louis Cardinals from falling, 4-3, to the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park. The St. Louis designated hitter went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once in the loss. The triumph puts Cincinnati at 27-21 for the season.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Jerry Alvarado came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing St. Louis pitcher Ian Privett, he hit a 2-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Cincinnati on top, 4-3.
St. Louis manager Jonathan Jones said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
