The manager of the Oklahoma City Red Hawks said he always had confidence handing the ball to Jorge Basaldua out of the bullpen.
The 32-year-old was a dominant performer all year for Oklahoma City and his efforts have been rewarded with the National League Reliever of the Year for 2045.
The bullpen ace had an impressive 2.42 ERA this season, with 13 saves in 90 relief appearances. He fanned 131 batters in 108 innings and sported a record of 6 wins and 4 losses.
Jim Gadsby of the Arizona Diamondbacks finished second in voting, while Art Caldwell of the St. Louis Cardinals finished third.

San Diego Ace Wins NL Cy Young Award

The 2045 National League Cy Young Award has gone to San Diego Padres ace Conor Newton after a stellar 21-5 season.
In 33 starts he piled up 222.2 innings, 255 strikeouts, 49 walks and a 2.02 ERA. Newton held opposing hitters to a .201 batting average.
Mike Fell of the San Diego Padres finished second in voting, while Bobby Schultz of the Arizona Diamondbacks finished third.

Best Player Named by National League

2045 was a very good year for Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Josh Cook, this season's National League Most Valuable Player Award recipient.
Cook hit .298 with a .358 on-base percentage. He had 178 hits, 45 doubles, 2 triples, 41 home runs, 119 RBIs and scored 117 runs.
Conor Newton of the San Diego Padres finished second in voting, while Jerry Blackwood of the Atlanta Braves finished third.
