MLB Short Season A pundits who figured the Round 1 between the Huntsville Jackhammers and Braithwaite River Hawks would go the distance were right on the mark.

The two teams battled back and forth in a spirited series, with Huntsville coming out on top thanks to a 7-5 win in the deciding game at River Hawks Grove, to wrap things up 4-3.

"You get to the last game and anything can happen, so we're overjoyed to come out on top," said Jackhammers shortstop Dan Raymond, who was named series MVP.

For the series, Raymond had 14 hits for a .483 average. He had 2 home runs, 9 RBI and scored 4 runs.

The Huntsville Jackhammers will play against the Allendale Sky Chiefs in the next round. Allendale won their series against the Brownsville Unicorns 4 games to 1. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
