Cincinnati pitcher Nestor Cortes did his part in helping his team beat the Chicago Cubs, 12-1. The left-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. In 7.2 innings, Cortes surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 9 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. Chicago has now lost 4 in a row.

Jarren Duran had a big 2-run triple for the Reds in the top of the fourth inning. With Cincinnati trailing 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a slider from Wes Parsons, who is tied for 3rd in the NL in complete games with 1, and swatted a triple to left. It was his 4th triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Reds ahead, 2-1.
