Astros End Metzler's Streak Monday, June 4th , 2029 The 20-game hitting streak of Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Rod Metzler came to an end today at Minute Maid Park. The Houston Astros held him hitless in 2 at-bats and also sent the Diamondbacks down to defeat, 9-0. Later, Metzler acknowledged to BNN reporters that the hit streak meant something to him. "It was special," he said, "but I think other people make a bigger deal out of it than I do, or the players do. It was what we're all supposed to do; go out and hit the ball and try to score runs. It was a cool deal, but it's over now. Let's try to start a new one." This season Metzler is swinging the bat at a .266 pace. He has hit 13 home runs and scored 32 times, while driving in 31. His on-base percentage is .282 and he has played in 55 games. |
