Astros Beat Athletics, 7-2
|
The Oakland Athletics got a superb performance from pitcher Matthew Liberatore. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Houston. The Astros won the game, 7-2. Liberatore threw 6.0 innings of 3-hit ball. The winner was Jose Alvarado in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Ismael Mella took the loss. At 3-0, the Astros have played well so far.
Had Grayson Rowand not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Rowand hit a 2-run single. That made the score 4-2, in favor of the Astros.
Rowand called the win "a collective effort."
