Yankees Down White Sox, 5-2
|
The New York Yankees beat the Chicago White Sox, 5-2, at Yankee Stadium. Rafael Devers belted 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. The two-time All-Star was a menace to Chicago all day. Luis Severino, 6-2, earned the win in relief. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 2.2 innings. Tanner Scott recorded the save for New York, his 23rd of the season.
There was more than one reason the Yankees beat the White Sox, but Devers's big at-bat in the bottom of the first was an important factor. He staked his team to a 2-0 lead when he hit a 2-run home run.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Devers, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
New York now owns a record of 45-44.
